Don’t look at Them. Never let Them know you can see Them. That is Ethan Chase’s unbreakable rule. Until the fey he avoids at all costs—including his reputation—begin to disappear, and Ethan is attacked. Now he must change the rules to protect his family. To save a girl he never thought he’d dare to fall for. Ethan thought he had protected himself from his older sister’s world—the land of Faery. His previous time in the Iron Realm left him with nothing but fear and disgust for the world Meghan Chase has made her home, a land of myth and talking cats, of magic and seductive enemies. But when destiny comes for Ethan, there is no escape from a danger long, long forgotten.
First Thoughts
The Lost Prince by Julie Kagawa is the first book in the new
Iron Fey series, and also the first book by this author that I've had the
pleasure of reading. Although this can be read as a stand-a-lone book I highly
recommend that you read the previous series. There're some things that can be
answered easier that way. Plus if you read the previous series you will have a
better understanding of certain characters, that pop up in this book, that were
a part of the earlier novels. Even though I fell in love with this book and all
of its character’s I really wish I had read the Iron fey series first.
My thoughts
Ok so what first caught my eye was the cover. I knew without
reading this book that I would enjoy it because I’m a cover whore. I could look
at tis cover for ages and never get tired of it. I mean if you were walking
into a book store and you saw this book you would stop and look at it, and then
you would read the synopsis, and then buy it!!
Also since this is my first Julie Kagawa book I didn't know
what to expect, I mean you can read reviews all day but once you read a book
all thoughts, and opinions are your own. So yes people told me that Julie
Kagawa was an amazing author but I had to form my own view, and I was not
disappointed. I ABSOLUTELY loved the writing. Everything flowed well together,
the pace was perfect, and the plot was great.
Now on to the characters!! Ethan, whom I decided is my new
book boyfriend of the week, was a great character. He was complex and I was
completely intrigued by him. He was all gloomy, and emo that I just wanted to
love him. He doesn’t want to get close to anyone. He has the gift/curse of SIGHT.
He wants nothing to do with the Fey (THEM) world but a certain situations
brings him right back in.
Now on to Kenzie, she is one of those characters’ that I
feel can fit into three categories. You either love her because you feel she is
fearless and head-strong, or you hate her because she doesn’t think, acts,
first, and is super nosy, or you share my feelings; Which is the fact that she
is all those things and with time she kind of grows on you.
Keirran's character I feel we didn’t see much of him come
through in this book but I look forward to a lot from him in the next one. I
also loved Grim and the rest of the supporting cast.
Overall, I can definitely say that I have been converted
into a Julie Kagawa fan and will now be spreading her praises to fellow YA
readers. She blends just the right amount of romance, action, comedy, and twist
and turns to leave you wanting to more and deliver an amazing story.
Ahh, I was really in love with this cover, too! And you're right, you don't have to read thee first Iron Fey series before reading this one but it's a good idea too! It's so much fun seeing returning characters and whatnot.
